Recommended Server Cabinet Size

When choosing a server cabinet size, it’s essential to consider factors like the quantity and dimensions of equipment to be installed, available space, cable management needs, and future expansion plans. Here are some recommended server cabinet sizes for different scenarios:

Height

  • 42U/45U/48U: These are suitable for large data centers and enterprise core computer rooms with a large number of servers and network devices to be installed. The 42U cabinet, with a height of about 1800mm, is the most common and can hold many standard 1U or 2U servers, providing sufficient space for cable routing and heat dissipation. 45U and 48U cabinets are used for high-density deployments, such as when a large number of small servers or high-performance computing devices need to be installed.
  • 24U/30U: For small and medium-sized enterprises or edge computing scenarios with limited space, 24U (about 1050mm) and 30U (about 1320mm) cabinets are good choices. They can hold a certain number of servers and network devices, meeting the basic needs of small and medium-sized network systems while saving space.

Width

  • 600mm: The width of 600mm is a standard size that can adapt to most standard servers and network devices, facilitating equipment installation and layout. It’s suitable for general enterprise server rooms and small and medium-sized data centers where there are not too many cables to manage.
  • 800mm: When there are a large number of cables to manage or a need to install wider equipment, an 800mm-wide cabinet is a better option. It has wider cable management spaces on both sides, which is very convenient for installing network devices and dealing with complex cabling in large data centers or core network areas.

Depth

  • 600mm: This depth is suitable for small servers, compact network devices, and some standard 1U or 2U servers. In a server room with limited space, a 600mm-deep cabinet can save space and make the layout more compact.
  • 800mm/900mm/1000mm: These depths are suitable for high-performance servers, storage devices, and other large equipment. Servers with complex internal structures and high-power requirements usually have greater depth, and cabinets of 800mm or more can provide enough space for installation and ensure good heat dissipation and maintenance conditions.
  • 1200mm: Usually used in scenarios that require a large amount of cabling and high heat dissipation requirements, such as the core network area of a data center. This depth provides more space for cable routing and installation of cooling equipment, ensuring the stable operation of equipment.
